Remembering the Genius of Eiko Ishioka

I was saddened to learn that my favorite costume designer, Eiko Ishioka, passed away last month after a battle with cancer.

She was the sole costumer that was able to collaborate with the visionary director Tarsem, whose scrumptiously eye-sweet films include "The Cell", "The Fall" and the eagerly anticipated (by me) "Mirror, Mirror".

This is a little tribute to her genius.

Here are some costumes from "The Fall", in which the characters' costumes are filtered through a little immigrant girl's mind, becoming convoluted and confused; she dresses the "indian" in the story as a sihk (pulling from her own references), when the story teller is imagining an old west version. The film also features Tarsem's signature surrealistically idyllic landscapes and sets.
